Retro but updated consoles with modern hardware are becoming highly popular. One of these consoles that returns or at least seems to return, is the Atari VCS. The mythical console returns with updated hardware and featuresbut it has suffered numerous delays, designs, and some hardware updates. This console can now be reserved at GameStop and Walmart stores in the United States. But we must bear in mind that the console will not begin to be delivered until March 2020.

This new Atari console will be based on an AMD APU, specifically on the Ryzen Embedded R1000. The console is based on two cores and four threads of Zen @ 14nm architecture processing. This APU is complemented with a Radeon Vega 3 which has 192 Stream Processors. Theoretically this platform should run games in 4K @ 60FPS resolution with HDR. Without they are 8-bit games it is quite likely, but hey, it is impossible that with 192 Stream Processors I can run games in 4K @ 60FPS, if the Xbox One X and the PlayStation 4 Pro cannot.

A total of 100 classic games from the mythical Atari have been integrated, such as Asteroids or Breakout. Remember that this console will be based on Linux and the controls will work through a USB port. Note that a Sandbox mode has been implemented that will allow Windows 10 to run through an external drive.

The simplest version of the Atari VCS will feature 4GB of RAM and will be priced at $ 249.99. The slightly higher version will have 8GB of RAM and will be priced at $ 279.99. There will be a premium version that will cost 389 dollars and that will add a gamepad and a joystick. The gamepad will be sold separately for $ 59.99 and the joystick will cost $ 49.99.
