Unreal Engine 5 demo for the Playstation 5 would be a big problem for the console SSD

The presentation of Unreal Engine 5 by Epic Games on the PlayStation 5 gave a lot to talk about at the time. Such a demo would be a big problem for Sony, since the users of these consoles would expect graphics of that quality. A graphic quality that will be more of a problem for the SSD of the PlayStation 5 than for the rest of the hardware.
Tim Sweeny highlighted that the load on the GPU would be low, similar to the load of Fortnite on the PlayStation 4. We can believe it, but the problem would be the amount of space that the game would occupy. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, for example, already consumes more than 210GB of storage and its size only makes it grow.

The greater the textures and the greater the content of the game, the greater the capacity it occupies. An exclusive game with high textures could consume a large part of the hard disk capacity. Not counting other aspects, such as operating system updates, for example.
We must bear in mind that the PlayStation 5 will have an 825GB SSD that can be expanded with memory cards. If we take the COD: Modern Warfare, we could install it 3 times, a fourth copy would not enter. In case the games are 100GB in size, we could install a maximum of 8 games. Logically there will be games heavier than others.
Ryzen Shah, CEO of Kitatus and Friends, a relatively small studio, has spoken about this. He emphasizes that after the praise, this will end up being a problem, since they will be forced to offer more graphic detail. Indicates that this improvement in graphic quality will impact the amount of space required.
Graphic quality, a double-edged sword
[irp]It looks absolutely fantastic. Especially the Nanite system to start with, I had to pick my jaw off the ground after that. It takes a lot of the headache out of building assets, but at the same time, it starts generating more worries. And one of the examples is Call of Duty: Warzone, as people are hounding Activision because of the size of Call of Duty: Warzone. And I think when we now have technologies in the Unreal Engine 5 that allow us to use the original font meshes, with the original font textures and all that, the game file sizes are going to have to skyrocket, which presents a unique set of challenges.
It was a very interesting presentation. What's more exciting than anything is that not all of the features, but many of them are available in some form in Unreal Engine 4 as is. Like the particle system, which is already available to us right now, even in a raw state, which has been fantastic for us, because this means that when Unreal Engine 5 is finally released, we will have the power to take what we have done. now and take it there instead of having to redo a game from scratch or make some serious adjustments to the port. Hopefully it will be relatively perfect to tap into its full potential.
