The new generation of consoles will use AMD Ryzen processors with Zen 2 architecture and Radeon RDNA 2 graphics. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will supposedly use Ray Tracing technology natively. All of this seems to be of no value to developers, as they all emphasize something that has been available on PCs for years: the SSD. Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, has also highlighted the SSD.
We don't know at the moment what kind of magic these new SSDs have developed to be so revolutionary. It seems a joke that the SSD is outshining the rest of the technologies built into Sony and Microsoft consoles. It should be noted that SSDs have been in PCs for years and there is no case, but they are used by consoles and they are a revolution.

The industry is obsessed with us looking at the SSD, which does not make the slightest logic. There is talk of great texture only possible thanks to SSDs, something that could already be done on desktop PCs for years. Today practically nobody uses an HDD as the main hard drive in their gaming equipment (and almost not even secondary). Highlighting the reduction in load times by SSDs is something that we all know very well, we have been seeing it on PC for years.
I think people underestimate the impact that almost non-existent load times will have [the SSD]. They will open doors that were previously considered impossible. I don't think we have even scratched the surface as to what will eventually be accomplished with these systems. For me, an improvement in the graphics is taken for granted. But, this new way of handling memory and load will be huge

So much insistence on SSDs and not CPU, GPU, or Ray Tracing, makes me think something's wrong. I may be wrong, but insisting on the storage unit as a great innovation, it smells funny.
