The Edge browser appeared recently on the Xbox One and Xbox series family consoles, but it lacked something essential: to be compatible with keyboard and mouse so that the experience is the same as on computers. With this, Microsoft begins to approach its intentions in the era of Xbox One to turn the console into a great center that groups everything important in one, hence its name.
The ability to use keyboard and mouse in the Edge browser opens up many possibilities. It was possible to use the keyboard built into the console and move with the controller, but typing and operating a browser with a digital controller is not the same as with a keyboard and mouse.
A breakthrough for the use of an Xbox as a work center
It might seem trivial, but these kinds of add-ons greatly expand the possibilities for using a console. With the Microsoft Edge browser, we can play games on Stadia or GeForce Now, and do office work with OneDrive simply by connecting a keyboard and mouse. Along with applications like Skype or Discord, we can practically turn our Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Xbox One X, or Xbox Series X into a complete workspace, and when we're done working, we can play games.
It will not be one hundred percent the same experience as on PC, since we do not have access to games that are not from the Xbox family, or third-party applications. That is if we don't want to deal with converting the console into one licensed to use unofficial UWP programs. But with the incredible amount of work done through the browser, it is possible that an Xbox One or series is a center for telecommuting and gaming, saving us space for a dedicated laptop.
It is a small addition that opens up dozens of possibilities and uses with something as simple as using a keyboard and mouse. This for now is in the version for those who are subscribed to the Xbox Alpha Skip-Ahead program. But it will very surely end up reaching all users.
