Sony and Microsoft consoles could have 8GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM

Hellpoint developer talks about the upcoming Sony and Microsoft consoles using 8GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM memory.

It seems that Sony and Microsoft are reluctant to die for consoles because they cannot compete with the PC. The rumors about the PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox are growing. We have seen how the current generation was going to offer 4K @ 30FPS and nothing at all. Both consoles in most Triple A games use upscaling from 1080p to 4K. Some games with simple graphics offer native 4K, but with significant FPS drops. In spite of everything, the two companies continue to bet on consoles and want to install a large amount of RAM and VRM.

The Director of Cradle Games, Marc-André Justras, who has developed Hellpoint among others, which will arrive shortly and has created various Triple A titles, believes that we will not see such a big leap in this regard. In an interview for Gaming Bolt, he highlighted that the next consoles will have between 8Gb and 12GB of RAM. This is because there are no games that use more memory and reaching 16GB would not make sense

"I don't think we'll see 16GB of RAM, most games don't use that much RAM anyway," he said during the interview. “I think the next generation will probably be between 8 and 12 years old. What we will see, however, is probably a larger number of cores. I wouldn't be surprised if the next generation was the Ryzen 2600 or something like that. Because it is really stable, cheap and has a good number of cores ”. The reference to the AMD processor is because it has six cores and twelve threads.

He wanted to highlight that the consoles would have a large amount of dedicated VRAM. It seems that shared RAM will end, something that weighs down consoles. This will help achieve a good 4K performance, something they do not currently offer.

"One of the things that is going to change is that they are going to focus more on VRAM memory, which is the big bottleneck right now if you want good 4K games, because the 4K frame buffer takes up a lot of space."

“So if you end up with a 4K buffer, you need four times the amount of VRAM memory. So I think we won't see more next-gen shared RAM capacity like it does with the PS4. I don't think we'll see it because it's a huge bottleneck. What we will see is more VRAM memory to support 4K and 5K resolutions and anything else that comes along "

"I wouldn't be surprised if the PS5 had 8GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM memory."
