Lenovo would be developing its own portable console-PC
With the advent of the Steam Deck, it was seen that there was a new market for the concept of Windows-based handheld consoles that let you play the games you already own. For example, allow you to play games from your Steam library, GoG or even Itch.io, instead of being closed to the Nintendo ecosystem and its Nintendo Switch. After the Steam Deck came the Asus ROG Ally as a more powerful alternative although with less autonomy, and that war of portable PC consoles would be joined by Lenovo with a possible Lenovo Go.
A new report suggests that another high-caliber company is preparing to offer its own portable gaming hardware. According to the WindowsCentral portal, it would be Lenovo who is working on a portable device for PC games, to be confirmed.
Lenovo would enter the market for PC gaming devices
Unlike the Steam Deck, the portable device is expected to is based on Windows 11 and include a larger 8-inch screen. This would make it possible to improve the scaling of the user interface, so that in this aspect it would have a point in its favor compared to the Rog Ally and Steam Deck that offer a smaller screen.
It will reportedly have a processor AMD-Phoenix. This could make it more capable than the Steam Deck, with Lenovo opting for a GPU of the RDNA 3 architecture. The source reporting this information has not been able to confirm the exact Phoenix processor. Earlier reports claimed that Lenovo was hoping to break into the cloud-based gaming handheld market with a device that was to be called the Legion Play, but was never made public and has possibly been cancelled.
Lenovo could announce this device at any time. I could even announce it with a release before the Christmas campaign, to try to get good sales knowing that at least this year there will be no new Nintendo hardware.
