Nintendo won't be releasing new hardware until April 2024
With the Switch in its seventh year of life, many are already wondering what the future holds for it. Powerful games like Xenoblade Chronibles 3 start to have performance problems that are solved by using emulators on more powerful PCs.
Together with the announcement that they have already sold more than 140 million units of Nintendo Switch, they have revealed the immediate future of the console. In their tax report, they state that they are not going to release new hardware, at least until April 2024, which is when your next fiscal year begins.
Neither Switch successor nor Switch Pro in 2023
This Nintendo announcement, which has been more of a non-announcement, makes it clear that Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite will be the hardware they have for sale this 2023. That would mean that there will be no new console models like the Switch OLED ; neither a possible fully desktop version, nor the Switch Pro that many fans believe exists.
It does not mean that they are not thinking about it, but that its launch is most likely not immediate. We are already in the seventh year of the console, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Coming out this Friday, May 12, and with Pikmin 4 as the next games that the console will receive. There is Metroid Prime 4, which has been for several years now after being a development revived after a year and a half of work that was wasted.
They can always announce more games in the future Nintendo Direct, although they are most likely already thinking in the event that they have to release a new console model or the successor itself. Although it has already reached an enviable sales figure, its pace has dropped significantly, and investors are going to want revenue to be increased in various ways to alleviate the drop in sales. It is still too early to say anything, but very surely, if they wanted to announce a console for next year, in the case of coming out in April, we will not see an ad campaign until at least the end of the year.
