Create a special ASIC for mining the Cryptonight protocol, on which Monero is based
They develop the first ASIC specifically created for cryptonight, the Monero protocol, specifically the Baikal Giant-N, developed by the Baikalminer company, offering a rate of 20KH / s and a consumption of about 60W.
Cryptocurrency mining, despite the fact that many do not like it, is a trend and there are many interested in this practice. The Baikalminer company has just announced the launch of the first miner developed for the cryptonight algorithm, the protocol on which Monero, Bytecoin and Aeon are based. According to the specifications, the Baikal Giant-N has a hash rate of 20KH / s for Cryptonight and 40KH / s for Cryptonight-lite, all for a consumption of 60W. It allows mining Monero, Bytecoin, Electroneum, Graftcoin, IPBCcoin, Sumokoin and Aeon cryptocurrencies. This has an Ethernet connection, 6-pin power supply and works between 0ºC and 40ºC.
It has been published on the company's official Twitter account and has subsequently been shared on the company's website. This is the first ASIC developed for mining using Cryptonight, which until now could only be mined using GPUs or CPUs.

Said special ASIC has dimensions of 19 × 12.5 × 13.9cm and has a total weight of 1.8 kilos. The company stressed that Monero could be mined in the first instance, although this information was later withdrawn and it was no longer among the cryptocurrencies that could be mined, although now they have once again highlighted Monero. We have no further data on this.
The Monero developers have always been against ASICs, as this would cause a rapid increase in the power rate of the network and cause imbalances. They do not close in band to this possibility, but they always wield that ASICs would destabilize equality in mining, seeking above all decentralization and promoting coexistence between the miners of processors, graphic cards and ASICs.

Well, the safest thing is that they do a diffusion since with only increasing the memory size a single Mb the asic would be useless besides that most miners are against the asic
If in btc it has not been done because 70% of miners are asic and the change would leave them useless for only one Mb more in monero, the network barely has 1000m / hs with the asics, the mining would focus very quickly and in the end it will be like the btc (although the price will rise in the long term it is bad strategy if they let it happen)
