Cardano (ADA) to launch its new BFT Ouroborous protocol at the next Hardfork

Shelley's Cardano (ADA) Corenet Launch May Test Mastery of Ethereum 2.0 like the star launch of 2020. Now things are heating up a bit more. Tim Harrison, Cardano's Director of Marketing and Communications (ADA) confirmed that tomorrow a new Ouroboros Byzantine Fault Tolerance (OBFT) consensus protocol will be launched.

It has been revealed that after 18 months of development, the Cardano (ADA) team is ready to upgrade their core algorithm, Ouroboros Classic, to Ouroboros Byzantine Fault Tolerance (OBFT). While the former is associated with the Byron Mainnet, the OBFT is the last stage in the evolution of the system before the Ouroboros Genesis that will power the Shelley Mainnet.

Cardano aiming for decentralization

This update will occur on February 20, 2020, within the Epoch 176 of the Cardano (ADA) network. ADA holders and Shelley Incentivized testnet participants have not been asked to do anything during the time of the update. End users will benefit from this early update from its earliest days. According to the official statement, the performance of the system (transactions per second, TPS), as well as the adaptability and portability of the blockchain will be improved.

Harrison also described that this novelty will reconsider the decentralization of the Cardano (ADA) blockchain as it will allow the evolution of Cardano in the Byron era, with its federated blockchain, to the decentralized Shelly era. Most commonly, users on the Cardano (ADA) YouTube channel appreciated the upcoming release. However, due to the fact that, according to Mr. Harrison, the next update after the OBFT launch will be sent “in the next few months,” some Cardanians are suspicious.

Critics recall that Charles Hoskinson said the Shelley Mainnet will launch in the first quarter of 2020. Despite previous commitments, now Shelley's launch may be delayed until the second quarter of 2020.
