Cryptocurrency Raptoreum could endanger CPU stock

If due to the current component crisis and miners hoarding GPUs to mine Bitcoin and Ethereum, or SSDs and hard drives for Chia, now it seems that the next thing will be the CPUs due to the Raptoreum cryptocurrency. This cryptocurrency, due to its mining, would endanger the stock of Ryzen CPUs due to its L3 cache.

According to a recent report by Bitcoin Press, the Raptoreum (RTM) cryptocurrency has the potential to create a shortage of AMD Ryzen processors if it succeeds among cryptocurrency miners. Raptoreum mining favors processors, especially those with huge caches, such as AMD's Ryzen, Threadripper, or Epyc chips intended for data centers.

Raptoreum favors cache-heavy CPUs

Having been on the testnet for three years, the Raptoreum cryptocurrency launched earlier this year. It is based on the Proof-Of-Work (PoW) model and the GhostRider algorithm, which combines the x16r and CryptoNight algorithms present in Ravencoin and Monero or Bytecoin, respectively. The GhostRider algorithm likes the L3 cache, especially the massive one, and that's one area where AMD Ryzen chips excel.

AMD's main Zen 3 processors, such as the Ryzen 9 5950X and Ryzen 9 5900X, feature up to 64MB of L3 cache. According to information from Raptoreum's Mining Profitability Calculator, the Ryzen 9 5950X and Ryzen 9 5900X offer up to 4.247 h / s and 3.557 h / s, respectively. The Ryzen 9 5950X could report 205 Raptoreum a day in mining, while the Ryzen 9 5900X offers up to 172. At a value of $ 0,0220255 per Raptoreum and using an energy cost of $ 0,12 / kWh, a Ryzen 9 The 5950X makes about $ 4,16 a day, while a Ryzen 9 5900X brings in $ 3,43. A $ 9 Ryzen 5950 739X pays for itself in 178 days and a $ 9 Ryzen 5900 524X in about 153 days.

More serious cryptocurrency miners can turn to AMD's Ryzen Threadripper or EPYC products, which have many cores. For example, the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X mines up to 404 Raptoreum a day, while something like the EPYC 7742 allows you to get 597 Raptoreum. With this, high-end AMD processors may be in high demand, if the profitability they can offer grows either through a revaluation of the Raptoreum or if its mining is facilitated. 4 or 3 dollars a day is a barely perceptible amount unless you have a huge mining farm, with all that it entails in terms of electrical maintenance due to direct consumption and refrigeration.
