Spencer Dinwiddie, an American professional basketball player, is raising nearly $ 25 million worth of Bitcoin from fans and will allow them to choose their next team. However, if the campaign fails, the current Brooklyn Nets guard plans to give all the bitcoins to charity.
The 27-year-old basketball player is under contract with the New York team at least until the 2020-21 season. Before the suspension of the NBA season, he was enjoying his best year, averaging 20.6 points, 6.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. Despite impressive stats and his contract, he's already looking forward to his next NBA assignment. Interestingly, he plans to let fans decide his next career move.

Earlier this week, he tweeted that if fans raised 2625.8 bitcoins (worth approximately $24.7 million now), he would sign a minimum contract for his next deal with a team of his choice. He later doubled his promise and created a GoFundMe page.

If we reach the goal, I will allow the fan base to determine the decision of my next team and sign a one-year contract at that destination. He later added that shoe companies and sponsors influence team decisions all the time, and he wants fans to do the same now. Dinwiddie hopes that " the team owners/staff won't be involved, so there are no downsides to this one-time endorsement deal ."
This isn't the first time the popular NBA player has mentioned the leading cryptocurrency . In 2014, the Sacramento Kings became the first NBA team to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. The Dallas Mavericks followed suit years later. Team owner Mark Cuban, however, recently stated that the Mavs had received a total of $130 in Bitcoin.
