Valve bans blockchain or NFT games on Steam, Epic Games accepts them
Since the emergence of blockchain technology and the NFTs, the video game sector has wanted to implement these technologies in games that make use of the security of the block chain or the unique section of the NFTs. Today there are games like Axie Infinity that implement it, but this type of game will not have a place on Steam.
For its part, Epic Games, despite not explicitly supporting them, has commented that it will not remove blockchain or NFT games from the Epic Games Store. This movement can be moved by simply taking the opposite of Valve.
NFT games are not welcome on Steam
Game developer NFT Age of Rust announced on Twitter that it had received a notification that they will be removing blockchain games from the store and platform. The official reason is that NFTs have a monetary value from outside the platform and those games could be considered gambling or a stock investment, something that Steam does not allow.
Valve's rules on what can be distributed on Steam now include a note to say that blockchain-powered games "that issue or allow the exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFT» cannot be published. In the case of Age of Rust, it is a game in which some puzzles give players an NFT as a reward.
The creator of Age of Rust stated that from Steam's point of view, items have value and they do not allow items that may have real value on their platform. They respect his decision even though they believe that NFTs and blockchain are useful technologies for the future.
While a few weeks ago, Tim Sweeney of Epic Games said that he would not allow these games on his platform, now it seems that he wants to attract NFT games and players; although it seems that it is just a move to go against Steam. In a recent tweet, Sweeney commented that the Epic Games Store will allow blockchain games. He advised that he allows them as long as they follow the relevant laws, publish their terms and conditions, and are classified by age by an appropriate group.
