Croat, the strange centralized cryptocurrency for Catalonia's attempt at independence
Croat, the strange cryptocurrency, which was born in the middle of the secessionist conflict in Catalonia, and which was born with the intention of being the first centralized cryptocurrency and whose value depends on the Catalan people.
Cryptocurrencies, among many other characteristics, are characterized by being a completely free, decentralized economic system that depends on acceptance and adoption by users and cannot be manipulated by governments, banks or other entities. So far cryptocurrencies are not attached to countries or territories and are cross-border. These premises have been 'broken', specifically they were broken or distorted on August 17, 2017, when the official launch of a cryptocurrency belonging to the autonomous community of Catalonia was announced. We talk about Croat.
This cryptocurrency arises in the separatist attempt of Catalonia, one of the seventeen autonomous communities, which make up the State of Spain. This secessionist challenge has gone through several phases and from the beginning, they have intensely sought to get into the blockchain market to attract companies and even pay for different acts, declared unconstitutional, with cryptocurrencies.
To find out where this desire for independence comes from, we must go at the end of the 1714th century, when the Catalans struggled to maintain their regional autonomy, which was truncated after the rise of Felipe V of Borbón in XNUMX. After that moment, Catalonia loses self-government. Over time, a movement was generated that called for the restoration of their self-government and autonomy, in addition to the vindication of customs and language.
For years this has gone a bit unnoticed, but after the recent world economic crisis, which affected Spain above all, this sentiment has been rekindled, especially by the political classes. All this has ended in an attempt at a referendum, declared unconstitutional, which was held on October 1 and which has ended with a failed declaration of independence and the intervention of autonomy.
Right in all this controversy, on August 17, 2017 the launch of Croat was announced, a cryptocurrency designed to be used and managed by the Catalan people and for the benefit of them. One of the characteristics of this cryptocurrency is that its team is completely anonymous, so much so that on its website, there is no email account or contact information and neither does any developer data appear.
El Press release, specific to the Cryptonote open source algorithm, which is based on Proof-of-Work (PoW), which is used in other cryptocurrencies. One of the main characteristics of this is that it can be mined by anyone with a computer, since it is mined by means of a processor, which means that specialized systems that have high consumption are not required. The mining software and the different Croat wallets have been developed for Windows, MacOS and Linux, as well as a wallet for Android, which will be available for iOS soon.
Some of the technical data about this cryptocurrency are those of its curious reward per block, starting with 81,44 Croat, which will go down to 100.467.441 Croat. The time it takes to mine a block, is approximately 60 seconds, the transactions are therefore fast and are validated efficiently. The commissions for each transaction are 0.00001 Croat for each transaction. These transactions also have great anonymity, thanks to the use of ring signatures and the addresses are for a single use. There are also ten businesses that support this cryptocurrency as payment.
Not much else is known about this project, which seems to be a kind of scam, which is trying to take advantage of a rather complex and controversial situation. Right now those who have these cryptocurrencies are the ones who have mined it or have acquired it through informal agreements, such as buying it from acquaintances or through agreements on Telegram or social networks. Little else is known about this strange project.
