Cuphead won't get its DLC until 2020
Studio MDHR's Cuphead will not be expanding this year despite promises. They do not want to promote the culture of crunch and prefer to make fans and investors wait so as not to squeeze the workers.
Last year it was announced that Cuphead was going to have a DLC, now known as Delicious Last Course for this year. We are already in the middle and we only have a trailer with a couple of seconds of gameplay of the new bosses. What happened? Well, it has been delayed by the health of the workers.
Better to wait for the Cuphead DLC than to exploit the workers
The recent trailer for Cuphead: Delicious Last Course saw that additional content has been delayed indefinitely next year. It will not be released this year even though it was initially promised. Chad Moldenhauer commented that it is because they want to avoid crunching the team: the bad habit of constantly making workers work for not wanting to delay the game due to unforeseen events or due to poor planning.
And no wonder. Cuphead's insignia is well-polished gameplay with well-designed and animated bosses as if they were Fleischer brothers cartoons full of details and movements. It requires a huge amount of work and therefore it is expected that it will take more than a year to release new content.
Chad Moldenhauer added that he believes the delay will greatly benefit this additional content. Working on the main game taught them to organize the team in a healthy and balanced way. Cuphead suffered numerous delays since their initial announcement following this way of working but were rewarded with great sales and a popularity that continues to this day. We can understand that many are not a bit amused by a delay of more than a year for what is essentially a DLC, but we imagine that the wait will be worth it.
