Cyberpunk 2077: Multiplayer May Not Come
Cyberpunk 2077 will be very ambitious but multiplayer is not guaranteed. They want it to be a quality one instead of a shoehorn one.
There is no multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077. At least it is not formally announced or confirmed but players expect it. CD Projekt RED is leaving us with long teeth that it will be their biggest game to date, at least one denser than The Witcher III and there are already those asking for a multiplayer that might not come true.
Multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077 has to matter
Marthe Jonkers from CD Projekt RED has commented in an interview that whether or not Cyberpunk 2077 has multiplayer depends on whether they can implement it with quality. For them it must have a minimum of quality comparable to that of content from The Witcher such as the Blood and Wine expansion.
They don't want to introduce multiplayer just to sell it in a cyberpunk 2077 trailer. They want one that is immersive. But they are focusing on single player content because it is their top priority when developing the game.
Could it take down multiplayer via a patch, update, or DLC? It's possible. The original board game was made to be played with friends, but perhaps the huge size of the map and the fact that the content is not intended for more than one simultaneous player will make multiplayer difficult. And the developers have no experience with multiplayer games, saving Gwent's game from The Witcher but it is a card game, not a full RPG title with a huge map full of items to interact with.
