It seems that NetherRealm Studios, video game developers like Mortal Kombat 11 and the Injustice, is working on more than just those two franchises. They have not wanted to give clues about what it could be.
While NetherRealms are widely known for fighting games, according to creative director Ed Boon, the development team has other things in development.

This news comes from an interview conducted for the launch of the Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath expansion. Ed Boon spoke with Geoff Keighley as part of the ongoing Summer Game Fest . It was expected that something would be announced during Summer Game Fest, but that wasn't the case this time. Nothing particularly new was announced or revealed in the interview, and nothing beyond Ed Boon's comments about the state of Mortal Kombat and the fact that NetherRealm Studios has a few projects in the works is definitely new.
ED Boon further commented that he sees Mortal Kombat become something like Marvel because people no longer expect one last Marvel movie to come out and be over. But he wants to show that they know how to make more games aside from Mortal Kombat and Injustice and stuff.
Now we speculate and dare to say that they will continue to work on fighting games. For years it has been speculated that one day they will make a game with characters from action and horror slasher films, as in their games they already have Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Robocop, Alien, the Predator and the Terminator. Your only problem would be the huge licensing mess of having to handle so many characters, but that is already handled well by Dead by Daylight, which is done by an independent studio.
