Deutsche Telekom suffers a malware attack

A malware attack nearly left all Deutsche Telekom users without service.

Deutsche Telekom, the German telephone and internet services company suffered a massive installation attempt on the routers that the company has installed in Germany. Fortunately, the attack was not completed successfully, but yes, there has been a cut in at least 5% of the company's routers due to this attack. For a short time, these routers were down. Fortunately, the solution was not very complicated either, since it was only necessary to disconnect them for 30 seconds from the electrical current and then restart the routers.

The attack has been considered unsuccessful as it failed to infect the network, but at least 900.000 users have reported problems on the routers, leaving them temporarily without service. The German company serves more than twenty million customers, so the disaster could have been mind-boggling. Deutsche Telekom already has a software update ready for the routers it has distributed, which is obviously free and that users must download and install to avoid future problems.

We must bear in mind that today, with the enormous connectivity that we have, any device can appear infected and cause problems in our home network or bring down a large network, such as that of a service company. Printers, smart watches, connected appliances, wireless printers or any device that has WiFi connectivity can be manipulated, with which the exposure is high, even if we have a good security system.

A few days ago, specifically on October 21, we already saw a massive attack that caused havoc. Through a DDoS attack aimed at attacking what is known as IoT, they completely paralyzed the East Coast of the United States. It was as a result of this attack that a strong package of measures began to be implemented in everything related to IoT elements.
