Dyslexia: Overtland has a mode for dyslexic players
Dyslexia, that disability that prevents reading at a good pace, is being considered in games. Overland boasts a setting for players who suffer from it.
Having dyslexia is a huge problem if you like video games. An RPG with a lot of text will be very difficult or almost impossible to enjoy due to having trouble reading at a good pace. For those who suffer from it, a text-based game is next to impossible.
Overland is a Game for dyslexics
This is what the creators of Overland saw when at a consumer fair, one of the attendees said he would like to be able to play it but with dyslexia and Overland being a strategic game that requires a lot of reading, he would not enjoy it at all. This comment got the team moving to help players with this issue.
The solution for a gamer with dyslexia to play a tactical title with a lot of text? Include a setting in the game options that changes the font to one designed for dyslexics. Activating this option changes the font to one designed so that those with dyslexia have no problems reading as they cannot confuse the letters with each other, and a small change in contrast.
It does not change the difficulty. It is only a small cosmetic change that a portion of players will appreciate. With this they also get players who live with this problem to know that they can play the game without problems, and it is an option that almost all games should do, and it is simply an option that changes the font used in the game. Given the complaints of more puritanical players, we remember that it is not about making the game itself easier but accessible to people who have problems playing video games in the same way as those who do not suffer from those problems.
