Intel shows its new drivers for Arc graphics for the third quarter of 2023

Intel has just released a big update to its driver tools for the Intel Arc series of graphics cards, be it the Alchemist and future generations like the battlemage. In this driver update, they stand out above all the analysis tools of the use of the CPU and the GPU in line for the graphic section.

This is that in the monitoring tools, the “GPU Busy” metrics are added. In short, it indicates whether the CPU and GPU are on par, or if in the case of noticing performance drops, knowing if it is the GPU or the CPU that makes the bottleneck.

Intel updates its Arc graphics drivers to improve performance and let you know if your CPU or GPU is holding you back

The GPU Busy Metric will allow you to know more exactly if the GPU needs to be renewed, thanks to the Intel Present Mon tool, which is now an end user tool and fully open source. This code will be published in the next few days on GitHub. It is sought that the CPU does not make the GPU have to wait, and that it is in line with the graphics card. Also, this tool can be used with other graphics from other brands, as long as manufacturers like AMD or NVIDIA allow access to certain telemetry details.

But most notable of all is that, with the new driver, there have been improvements in games, especially those that use DirectX9 and DirectX11. In a question and answer session, they have confirmed that they will continue to work on performance improvements. They are committed to improving compatibility in DirectX9, and hope to unlock the full potential of DirectX 11 soon. They are also improving DX12, but with some limits. On DirectX10, they commented that there are so few relevant games that use it, that they don't consider it an immediate priority.

They showed a number of improvements, with some key games increasing by 10%, but in the case of Counter Strike: Global Offensive, the improvement is 77%. They added that it is not an improvement that uses the top of the range. The results came from a combination of a Intel Arc A750 using an i-5 CPU. Expect more improvements with an Intel Arc A770, and less with an A380. They gave the A750 an example since it is the most popular among the gaming public. Finally, they added that the improvements in Arc graphics are not specific to Intel CPUs, with which they could also improve on AMD CPUs.
