# E32017: Project Scorpio will allocate only 9GB of the 12GB GDDR5 to games

Mike Ybarra, vice president of the gaming section of XBOX and Windows, has tweeted that Project Scorpio will free only 9GB GDDR5 of the total 12GB GDDR5, with 3GB only for the operating system.

Mike Ybarra, Vice President of Xbox and Windows Gaming, tweeted from his official account that Microsoft's new console, Project Scorpio, will only have 9GB of GDDR5 memory for games. This means that the console, which boasts a total of 12GB of RAM, will reserve 3GB for the operating system. Games that don't fully utilize the 9GB can use the remaining memory as cache, which will improve game loading times.

Taking advantage of E3, we will see this console next Sunday, when it will be presented in society, where we will see the final design of this product and we should also see it in action, since it is expected to move games, in addition, the company will also take advantage of the event the price of this product. The price is a key factor, since if it is very high, over the PlayStation 4 Pro, users will go for Sony's solution or more likely for a gaming desktop computer, which is sure to last longer and offer better quality to gaming fans than this product.

We must highlight Project Scorpio, which has eight obsolete Jaguar cores, the same ones that have been used in the XBOX One, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, although this chip worked at 2.3GHz. For graphics, an AMD Radeon with 2560 Stream Processors with a frequency of 1172MHz, 12GB of GDDR5 memory, a 1TB capacity mechanical storage unit and a 4K Blu-ray optical drive has been integrated.

Before leaving, it is already more than obsolete. It is still not logical to use a mechanical hard drive in a gaming product with SSDs on the market, as the performance loss is very noticeable. This console is supposed to move games at 4K @ 60fps, but come on, with this graphics and that processor, that seems like a true utopia and more considering that it seems to be based on Polaris and not on Vega, which yes that would be able to give that solution. Let it be clear that it is not a criticism of AMD, but of the obsession of Microsoft and Sony for launching obsolete products to play with graphic qualities of more than two years ago.

      1. Man BAURK, that's what we're talking about in 2006 😀 we're already in 2017 😀 a bit far away, isn't it xD when the Xbox One has tremendous cooling and the latest Xbox 360 touchscreen too 😀

          1. Oju, I am ignorant of consoles. Nor does it come again, the last one I had was the PlayStation, the first

  1. It is true that this generation is quite limited, thanks mainly to the jaguar cpu that they have to maintain to achieve full compatibility between them. But the issue of the SSD is no longer important, since it would only improve the loading times in games, making the price more expensive. But finally what matters, which is the performance in fps, would be the same.

    1. That which would make the price of the product more expensive, has its little pass, but that is not worth it, because it only reduces loading times, well man, it seems to me more reason than anything, because waiting half an hour for the next level to load , it cuts the roll pretty.

      1. I use compulsory ssd on pc, but only for the operating system, or some battle type game just to enter the battle earlier once it has started ... for the rest I don't miss it either, a good 7.200 rpm HHD disk are perfect for playing .

I do not think it is feasible to make the console more expensive by putting a ssd into a system with an apu, which will continue to deal with current generation games. You have to see that ps4pro has lowered the price of its console, therefore, I see that even fewer can afford to put SSDs, to gain nothing compared to its competitors visually speaking.

        Sure it's my humble opinion.

        Greetings.

  2. I am amused about 8 obsolete cores, those of ps4 pro are not too, the press and pages like that you disgust disincending people

  3. Well, it is supposed that it will be a Jaguar architecture taken to its maximum exponent in which they will unlock architectural characteristics not available until now but I do not know if that Jaguar plus will serve for or only marquetín and little else

    1. If it is hard enough to move 4K with Intel Kaby Lake processors and AMD Ryzen with the GTX 1080 Ti, I do not want to imagine an old Jaguar processor with an indeterminate graphics, which could be Polaris, probably. We must remember, according to AMD, that the AMD Vega will move 4K @ 60fps. From my point of view, there is data that does not fit between the hardware and Microsoft's graphics requirements. The fault is not AMD, I see the problem in Microsoft, let it be clear.

      1. No, if you are right, (although I was already moving the 4K before the 1080Ti based on brute force with the last 2 AMD Dual Cards), but I'm curious to see how far they will go, they would do better waiting a little until VEGA and Ryzen, even if they had to emulate Xbox One games and even if it meant working on a new system so that new games are programmed 1 time and work on both platforms, however I'm curious how far they can go, if Jaguar now offers any features extra that works in games, they reduce the lithography, double the frequency of all the cores and the games take advantage of all of them added to the optimization that used to accompany consoles because with that and its 2 teraflops and who knows maybe they get something close to what they said that if they don't give us a surprise today and add more teraflops, we have to be optimistic haha

  4. I don't see the need for the SSD ... with the HDD it has enough and it seems to me that the article is largely based on personal appreciations!
