Epic Games shows a DirectX Raytracing simulation based on Star Wars

Impressive demonstration by Epic Games of DirectX Raytracing technology under its Unreal Engine graphics engine, based on Star Wars, which has left us stunned.

The technology developed by Microsoft and NVIDIA, such as DirectX Raytracing, is playing very hard in a large number of demonstrations, which are delighting video game fans. This technology implements important improvements with respect to lighting by tracing the light rays, something that offers greater realism. Yesterday, without going any further, we saw the demo of Futuremark and CryEngine V, the latter being a real show. Now it's up to Epic Games with a Star Wars demo under the Unreal Engine 4 graphics engine.

Epic Games has shown the first Raytracing demo under its Unreal Engine 4 graphics engine, considered one of the best and most powerful. For this they have used Microsoft's DXR, combined with NVIDIA RTX technology and of course, to achieve this, NVIDIA Volta graphics, since light ray tracing technologies do not work with Pascal. They have baptized the video as 'reflection' and it shows in a crystalline way the new lighting and rendering techniques under Unreal Engine, which have been developed with NVIDIA and ILMxLAB.

We have in this demo, what will be the future of video games, where we will have a much more realistic lighting in terms of simulation of light rays, more polished reflection effects, more detailed shadows and in general, an increase in detail based on great computing power, since everything is rendered in real time. Raytracing allows video games an unprecedented improvement in graphic effects.

We do not know when this technology will begin to be implemented in games, but it will not be soon, since there are no gaming graphics that support this technology, which requires great computing power and the NVIDIA Tensor Core that it has implemented in the Volta. Epic Games has also not wanted to give data on the equipment used for this render.
