Xbox Skorpio Specifications Leaked
Teraflops, GPU, architectures and more specs on the Xbox Skorpio
The Xbox Scorpio, the new console that will be launched by Microsoft at the end of this year has been leaked through rumors and "leaks". This morning, Digital Foundry revealed the largest amount of information known to date. (In quotes » » the quotes from the website and source of all the leaks, obviously translated from English.)
«ESRAM is essential to the performance of the Xbox One and Xbox One S consoles. However, Project Skorpio will not use ESRAM, as the quantity of these chips is not sufficient for developers to design a Project Skorpio SKU system, and ESRAM optimization remains critical to the performance of Microsoft platforms.»
«Some details about the final Xbox hardware will be the 6 TFLOPS of GPU power that have been confirmed again, generating 4,5 times more power than the Xbox One. The L2 cache will be multiplied by 4, which is not very revealing except for the fact that it reveals that the GPU architecture will be as modern or more modern than AMD's Polaris. Based on our conversations with Mark Cerny on PS4 Pro, we can predict that Microsoft may tweak its GPU core just as Sony did, with access to Radeon RoadMap features up to – and perhaps beyond – AMD’s next Vega architecture. Microsoft is giving little away here, other than confirming that delta color compression (DCC) is a feature part of the Skorpio’s GPU, just like on PS4 Pro.
«We recognize that developers are unlikely to want to invest the full resources of the console's GPU and so will not be forced to do so. As an alternative, graphics power will also be invested in graphical quality improvements such as texture filtering, shadows, etc… Another option for developers could be frame-rate upscaling – running graphics at 60Hz, but the CPU at 30Hz and tweening animation.»
