Security expert says there is a keylogger in more than 460 HP laptop models

A security expert has found a keylogger in HP laptops, specifically this would be integrated into more than 460 models of the company.

It seems that the keyloggers of the companies are not finished going or eliminated by the companies. The last to which they have found a keylogger or tool that records everything we write, installed on the computer, has been the popular Hewlett-Packard, also known by the acronym HP. It has been the computer scientist and security expert Michael Myng (ZwClose), who has analyzed this and has said that there are more than 460 models on the market that incorporate it, specifically it can be found in the EliteBook, ProBook, Pavilion, Envy and laptops gaming Omen.

Michael explained that he is working on an inspection of the Synaptics Touchpad SynTP.sys driver when he spotted a piece of code that looked suspicious to him. What this keylogger was doing was storing the WPP tracking scan codes, which by default is disabled, but could have been 'enabled by setting a registry value', which would put the privacy of the computer at risk.

The harsh accusations have forced HP to come out to explain that the software was created to support bug fixes. The company explains that while there could be a loss of confidentiality, they also say they have not had access to customer data through this potential security breach. Additionally, the company specifies that it is a Synaptics issue and that it would affect all of the company's OEM partners.

“A potential security vulnerability has been identified with certain versions of Synaptics touchpad drivers affecting all Synaptics OEM partners. One party would need administrative privileges to exploit the vulnerability. Neither Synaptics nor HP have access to customer data as a result of this issue. "

It is not the first time a similar problem appears in an HP product, who discovered a similar code in the audio drivers, so there are already two cases that have occurred in the company and that the leading company in the laptop market , you shouldn't have done if you want to remain trusted by users. Michael also commented: I sent a message to HP about the find. " He further adds: "They responded terribly quickly, confirmed the presence of the heartbeat logger (which was actually a debug trace), and released an update that removes the trace."
