Society has changed a lot and very fast due to the coronavirus. Especially since now at work and school it's time to use video calls on Zoom or Skype.
People we would never invite into our home will see our rooms and living rooms. An entire attack on personal privacy. But there are those who want to take advantage of it and go on claiming to be cultured. How? With a false shelf full of books ... Or that's what they wanted us to believe.
It was false that there were false books, until they became real
A few weeks ago, Eduardo Bera posted a tweet with a screenshot from Wallapop showing a company selling a fake bookcase, just like one in a store. It was being marketed as a " Background bookcase display for video calls ," clearly aimed at people who want to impress their coworkers by appearing to read a lot of books.
But the reality, as the author himself confessed, is that it was a fake ad. The author himself admits that "it was a real pain" and was re-appropriated by influential Twitter users such as Pablo Simón or the writer Juan Gómez Jurado, with more diffusion than the original tweet. And all this made this fake video call library become a reality in the end.
On a decoration website, the author saw that a vinyl company has begun to market this model ... With the disadvantage that it is the same exorbitant price and dimensions that would not fit in a normal house. If you are 240 cm tall! That does not fit in many houses.
Although the model that is sold is one with old books, and they also offer a variety with Star Wars figures. Maybe it's to see if they can make money out of the prank for someone with a complex. Or we may have to stop looking at what is behind the people in video calls on Skype or Zoom and stop being smart and cultured just because we have many books at home.
