Microsoft Project Scorpio console full specs leaked

The full specifications of the Microsoft Project Scorpio console have been leaked, which leaves doubts as to whether it will meet the expectations it has generated with quite outdated gaming hardware.

The complete specifications of the next Microsoft console, the Project Scorpio, have just been filtered, with which we already know all the characteristics of this new console, with which we can make an analysis of its benefits. There is a lot of interest about a console capable of moving games in 4K resolutions with a rate of 60fps, as is being promised, now, the hardware developed for this console, such as processor and graphics, exclusive to AMD for this platform, may not be as good as expected.

The first thing we find in the Project Scorpio is that a high-performance SoC has been developed from AMD with a surface area of 360mm2 and manufactured in 16nm FinFET. This SoC integrates an eight-core Jaguar Evolved x86 processor with a fixed frequency of 2.3GHz and 4MB of L2 cache. Very discreet specifications of this processor, which would be equivalent to the Pentium G4560 or at most an Intel i3 Skylake / Kaby Lake. The graphics card is a custom Polaris GPU with 40 Compute Units clocked at 1172MHz and offering 6TFLOPS graphics computation.

We want to focus on this point, because this integrated graphic has more Compute Units than the RX 480, which has 36 Compute Units, but it stands out that the frequency of the RX 480 is 1266MHz, much higher than the 1172MHz of the integrated one. The RX 480 in terms of computing power has a maximum of 5.8TFLOPS and Microsoft's solution has 6TFLOPS. The difference is minimal. Now, our concern in this field, is this graphics card really capable of moving 4K with a rate of 60fps?

The specifications are quite revealing since the resolution that the HDMI 2.1 Variable Refresh Rate connector will support will be 2160p and FreeSync 2 is incorporated. Probably the implementation of the more advanced HDMI connector and FreeSync 2 is due to the fact that this console will not work directly in 4K resolutions Instead, it will be based on 1080p resolutions and then it will scale up to 4K resolutions.

Processor and graphics will share 12GB of GDDR5 memory working at a frequency of 6.8GHz, with a bandwidth of 326GB / s and a memory bus of 384bits. It will have 8Gb of Flash memory and a 1TB mechanical-type custom internal hard drive, as well as a 4K UHD Blu-ray optical drive. All of this powered by a 245W power supply. The SoC, on the other hand, is cooled by a vapor chamber cooled by a centrifugal fan.

There are some expectations about this console that were difficult to achieve and that were for the general public. It is not uncommon for the computer gaming market to grow in recent months, since consoles are becoming useless and obsolete elements, so much so that the processor of this console is completely obsolete and that an Intel Pentium processor, which usually Being very discreet makes him look ridiculous.
