Amazon hides half an hour from the end of The Expanse in its X-ray show

The Expanse series has been broadcasting its latest episodes for two weeks on Fridays, premiering a new episode on the Amazon Prime Video service. As many may think that six episodes may be too few to close the entire story arc, they have decided to add additional scenes to the world of The Expanse in its final season using the X-ray function.

This function allows you to pause the streaming to see information about the actors that appear on the screen. With this, Amazon has saved almost a tenth of the last season of the series in a function that many do not use, and that is not available on Smart TVs or Chromecast or Fire TV.

A little-used feature adds half an hour to the end of The Expanse

The Expanse production company shot an additional 25 minutes of story in five vignettes, which can only be accessed via X-Rays. In addition to the fact that few people use them because they do not see it useful, they can only be used in the app for smartphones and tablets, in addition to their web version.

Although the scenes are not totally important to the plot, nor do they significantly fill all the plot gaps that there may be. The Expanse showrunner and co-author Daniel Abraham claims they were designed to be shown in order with the main episodes.

The idea of saving additional scenes in this function of a streaming service can be a way to justify the use of the function, and attract viewers of linear television through a function that can only be used in digital streaming. In addition, it would discourage piracy by having elements that are not easy to replicate in an illegal streaming or torrent, as happened with Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and other interactive episodes that Netflix released.
