The successor of GDDR5 and GDDR5X, i.e. GDDR6, is already confirmed for early 2018 according to HK Hynix
SK Hynix, one of the largest flash memory manufacturers and developers, has announced today that during early next year 2018, high-end graphics cards will already use GDDR6 memories with all the advances that these entail. In the coming months, the start of its mass production is expected to be able to be launched on the market globally when the date already indicated.

With the presentation of the new fastest chip on the market 2Znm 8Gb (Gigabit) GDDR6 (Graphics DDR6) DRAM, more specifications have been known about the GPUs that will mount it (some of them were already known), such as: 384 memory bus bits or a maximum bandwidth of 768 GB / s.
According to research carried out by the Gartner company, the volume load used by DRAM rises from 2,2 GB this year to 4,1 GB in 2021. This increase would represent a brutal growth rate that would reach a large figure of one 17% annually for the next few years.
Along with this news, great rumors have emerged about whether this new GDDR6 would be more intended for gaming-oriented computers or for workstations that work mainly with video editing and photography in a professional way. It seems that as long as HBM technology fails to lower prices and makes your future HBM3 find its place in the market, the GDDR standard will continue to reign almost everywhere.
