Ghostwire Tokyo loses Ikumi Nakamura, its creative director

Ghostwire: Tokyo had barely been announced at E3. Nakamura had risen to fame in the industry for his energy by announcing a horror game.

The Bethesda conference at E3 had many moments of supreme boredom. But one of the moments that saved her was the presentation of Ghostwire: Tokyo, a horror game directed by Shinji Mikami's apprentice Ikumi Nakamura. She presented her game with an energy and naturalness compared to the asepticism of this type of presentation that people wanted the game because of how she had performed on stage.

It's spooky…

Three months after that announcement, Ikumi Nakamura has announced on his social networks that he has left Tango Gameworks, a Zenimax company and partner of Bethesda with whom he has been for the last nine years.

Ikumi Nakamura is the designer for Bayonetta, and served as creative director on both The Evil Within installments. She was currently working on Ghostwire Tokyo, which so far hadn't shown any gameplay, just a concept trailer with live actors, and some concept art.

What does this mean for Ghostwire Tokyo? It is a great loss to lose someone so key in the development process, for lack of knowing what state the game was in and what was the power of Ikumi Nakamura at this point. If the game runs into creative trouble for the rest of its production they will have to put in someone who could alter the vision of the game. We do not believe that Zenimax or Bethesda will cancel the game, but many people interested in it because of Nakamura's energy and personality will feel that it is not the game they were promised.
