Gigabyte announces that it is updating the Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1080 EX and the Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1060 with the new GDDR5X and GDDR5 memory, respectively.
After the arrival of the NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti, it was said that the GTX 1060 and GTX 1080 could receive an update regarding the GDDR5 and GDDR5X memories, incorporating the new memories that offer improvements in the working frequency of the same. Gigabyte has announced that it updates its Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1080 XE and Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1060 graphics cards with these new memories, to offer an extra performance to users who bet on these graphics cards.
We start with the AORUS GTX 1080 XE, which receives the new GDDR5X memories, which allows the working frequency of these memories to go from the original 10GHz to the 11GHz of the new generation. The base frequency is still 1784MHz and the Boost frequency of this graphics card is still 1936MHz, where the PCB design, the video connectors or the heatsink do not change, which remain the same. This graphics card is characterized by having two internal HMDIs welded onto the PCB in a system that has been called VR-Link, logically thought for virtual reality.
The Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1060 graphics card is also updated, which incorporates the new GDDR5 memories that work at a frequency of 9GHz. Gigabyte wanted to boost these memories and has raised their frequency to 9024MHz, 0.3% more power compared to the original frequency. The rest of the parameters, such as frequencies, the PCB or the heatsink have not undergone any variation. This Gigabyte GTX 1060, like the rest that integrates the new GDDR5 memories, has the mission to compete with the RX 580, which differ very little from the reference frequency of the RX 480 and only improve the bandwidth of the memories.
