Google publishes which of its Chromebooks is affected or not and if they will receive a security patch

Google does not wait for anyone and launches a list of Chromebooks that are vulnerable or not to Meltdown and also those that will receive the relevant security update, in the shortest possible time.

The Specter and Meltdown vulnerabilities are giving a lot to talk about and have become a headache, especially for Intel, but also for AMD and ARM. These three companies are being opaque and have not specified which processors or products suffer from this vulnerability and which do not. Google, thanks to its Project Zero team, have discovered the vulnerability and to top it off, they have promised to be transparent and for now, they are crystal clear, since they have published which Chromebook models have the Metldown problem or not.

Microsoft has already released a security patch for Meltdown and Specter, just like Linux, but in addition, firmware patches are expected for all Intel, AMD and ARM products, in addition to all possible solutions that can be implemented. NVIDIA has released drivers that help protect from these vulnerabilities, which do not suffer, Apple, with its security patch, has caused a large drop in performance of the iPhone 6, which is known and Intel is still the one with the most problems and that be the biggest seller of processors, it is not helpful in this case.

Google is not for nonsense and has published the complete list of Chromebooks affected or not and how is the issue of the patch. Within Chromium Projects, we can find the list of the company's equipment and know which ones are safe and which ones will receive the Meltdown patch. It should be noted that there are old computers in EOL, which will not receive the updates.

The list shows us the public key name of the product, as well as the marketing name by which they are known. What matters are the two columns on the right, since all those that have the word 'Yes', it means that they do not require any patch. The Chromebooks that will not be updated are the Samsung Chromebook Series 5, Acer C7 Chromebook, Samsung Chromebook Series 5 550, Google Cr-48, Acer AC700
