3dfx Rampage, a graphic that never hit the market, now moves the Max Payne or Unreal Tournamente smoothly
Years later we can see an unknown Rampage 3dfx moving the Max Payne or Unreal Tournament, although it never saw the light.
A few days ago we were talking about some engineers resuscitating the 3dfx company in book form. Now more than one of the graphics developers has become known. During the 90s and 2000s it was a pioneering company in the field of graphics. Despite the bad moments of recent years that forced him to close, they had something on their hands. 3dfx had ready a graphics capable of surpassing its competitor at the time, the Rampage GPU.
Rampage, the latest 3dfx bullet to beat NVIDIA's GeForce 3
Martin Gamero Prieto has published images of the 3dfx Rampage, a graphic ready to go to the market. This never got to be commercialized and years later we can see it moving important games at the time. For example, it moved titles like Max Payne or Unreal Tournament without problems. It can also be seen running 3DMark 2001.
Rampage was the last solution developed in order to compete with the NVIDIA GeForce 3. A year later, in 2002, the company declared bankruptcy and the Rampage never made it to the market. Something that could have saved her unfortunately did not see the light.
Hardware Legend
Two Rampage models are known, one with the A0 chip that is soldered and others without soldering, which are called test sockets. Likewise, these are characterized by being in high demand and paying large amounts of money. Some have even paid more than $ 11.000 for one of these.
A certain Oscar Barea has two Rampage cards, although he had three, exchanging one for other prototypes. Both make use of an adapter due to a design flaw, but are fully functional.
After closing, the destruction of all the models was planned, but some were saved. It is also curious how 3DMark 2011 can be executed and passed thanks to a very specific special driver.
