AMD officially announces the new Threadripper PRO

Despite the fact that last week all of the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors were leaked, today they have been officially announced. These new processors are primarily intended for professional workstations. The AMD PRO range of processors is characterized by having additional security improvements over conventional models.

Ryzen Threadripper processors are characterized as the intermediate step between commercial Ryzen processors and EPYC server processors. These Threadripper PRO processors are specially designed for Workstation, content editing and small servers. As a great novelty, they have more PCI Express 4.0 lanes and support more DDR4 RAM than the Threadripper 3000 Series.

AMD Announces New Ryzen Threadripper PRO Processors

These new processors can be found in the Lenovo ThinkStation P620. Lenovo's new workhorse laptops are the world's first to feature 64-core processors. They are the first systems built exclusively around Threadripper PRO processors. These systems will be available starting this fall.

Regarding these processors, it stands out that:

• First workstation processors to support PCI Express 4, offering the full potential for next-generation graphics and storage
• They have 128 PCI Express 4 lanes, thus having 2.5 times more bandwidth than competitive systems
• Supports up to 8 lanes DDR4 @ 3200MHz, supporting ECC RDIMM, LRDIMM and UDIMM formats.
