AMD has shown a new 3D chiplet at COMPUTEX 2021

AMD 3D chiplet technology features a packaging breakthrough that combines AMD's chiplet architecture with 3D stacking using a hybrid link approach to provide more than 200 times the interconnect density of 2D chiplets, and more than 15 times the density compared to 3D packaging. Created in close collaboration with TSMC, it also consumes less power than current 3D solutions and is the world's most flexible active-on-active silicon stacking technology.

The first application of this chiplet has been a 3D vertical cache coupled with a prototype AMD Ryzen 5000 series processor designed to offer great performance in many applications. AMD is preparing for the production of future high-end products with 3D chiplets later this year.

AMD RDNA 2 gaming architecture in new markets

AMD has announced in its Computex 2021 keynote that it will bring new gaming experiences to the automotive and mobile markets through partnerships with industry members. The infotainment systems in the Tesla Model S and Model X will work with an AMD Ryzen Embedded APU and a GPU based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture that allows to run HIGH-END games. In the case of the partnership with Samsung on its next-generation Exynos SoC, it will feature custom IP graphics based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture to bring variable speed shading and ray tracing to flagship mobile devices.

The AMD Radeon RX 6000M series mobile graphics will be designed to bring great performance, great visual quality and immersive experiences to gaming laptops. AMD Radeon RX 6000M series GPUs take advantage of the AMD RDNA 2 gaming architecture to deliver up to 1,5x higher gaming performance than the AMD RDNA architecture.

With the AMD Advantage Design Framework, AMD will partner with global partners from the PC world to deliver the next generation of premium gaming notebooks. These will combine AMD Radeon RX 6000M series mobile graphics, AMD Radeon software and AMD Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors with exclusive AMD smart technologies and other advanced features. The first models are expected to arrive at the beginning of this month of June that has just started.

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution spatial scaling technology is designed to increase the frame rate up to 2.5X in certain games and thereby improve the quality and experience of high resolution gaming. It is open source technology that offers wide support in more than 100 processors and GPUs from AMD and other brands. More than ten game developers plan to integrate FSR into their major game engines and titles in 2021.

Expanding the capacity of AMD Ryzen and EPYC

Coimop final point to its Computex 2021 keynote, AMD has announced that they have expanded the Ryzen processor family with new commercial options with the desktop APU AMD Ryzen 5000G series: the Ryzen 7 5700G and the Ryzen 5 5600G. Both have the power of the Zen 3 range and the performance of Radeon graphics integrated into a single chip and will be available on the market later this year. AMD Ryzen PRO 5000 series G and GE series desktop processors launched today, offering high performance and security features for enterprise systems.

Third-generation AMD EPYC processors and their partnerships with the server ecosystem are enabling digital services and experiences for billions of users. With the introduction of 3rd generation EPYC processors, AMD has doubled the number of solutions available, including leading solutions for hyperconverged infrastructure, data management and analytics, and HPC. In the first competitive public demonstration against the latest Intel Xeon Scalable processors using an e-commerce application, 3rd Generation EPYC processors delivered 50% more business transactions than Intel's most powerful two-socket system while maintaining a SLAiii comparable. AMD EPYC processors currently hold 220 world records for cloud, enterprise and HPC workloads and applications.
