AMD's new roadmap eliminates Threadripper processors and rumors appear about the disappearance of these processors.
We all know that the AMD Ryzen 3000 Series and the AMD EPYC Rome will be featured at Computex 2019. These are based on the Zen 2 design under 7nm lithography. To date we have assumed that the company would introduce a new generation of Threadripper. A recently leaked new AMD roadmap does not show the XNUMXrd Gen Threadripper. The funny thing is that so far Lisa Su has not mentioned the new Threadripper at any time.
Will AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors still exist?
The company has removed the Threadripper processors from its Roadmap, something quite curious. It is true that the Roadmap shown refers to the products for 'customers' or what is the same, for the average user. APUs, Athlon and notebook solutions are shown, so these processors would not paint anything for the professional segment.
It certainly makes sense, as the top-of-the-range Ryzen would have a total of 16 cores. This would leave the Threadripper with no market space, due to the EPYC Rome. The normal thing would be to find EPYC processors from 20 cores up to 64 cores. It would be leaving these processors out of the market, which had some appeal when the Ryzen were limited to eight cores.
The market for these processors is very limited and with the new EPYC Rome they would be out. We must also highlight that the TR4 socket only has the X3999 chipset and it arrived in 2017. Since then it has not received the slightest relevant update. We didn't even see a new chipset with the second-gen Threadripper. We have heard rumors about the new 500 Series chipsets for Ryzen, but no new chipsets for Threadripper.
We will see if the continuity of these is confirmed at Computex 2019 or they disappear permanently. The truth is that low sales, increased cores for Ryzen and the EPYC, could have killed them.
