AMD Says "We never dreamed we would be ahead of Intel"

The market situation for AMD is better than anyone could have imagined five years ago. Thanks to the Zen architecture processors, they have managed to take flight and their situation is unbeatable. A good moment that is reflected in the current 42 dollars per share. During a conference from AMD they have made some statements, to say the least, interesting.

The good moment of AMD is not only due to the good performance of the Zen architecture, but also to the problems of Intel. And is that Intel's problems to launch 10nm processors are affecting the market. In addition, the prices of the processors are expensive, they are based on an architecture that we could call obsolete and that cannot with the Zen2 @ 7nm.

AMD does not believe the good times that live

Perhaps the highlight of the conference was that "we never dreamed that we would be ahead of Intel." The company has also highlighted that they are the leaders in the semiconductor market. This is relative, because AMD has improved in terms of market share, but still has a long way to go. Note that Intel still has a lot of support in the market and is the largest chip manufacturer in the world.

We had some shortcomings against Intel. With Rome, we not only doubled the performance in terms of doubling the cores per socket over our previous generation and more than double the current generation Intel.

We also worked a lot on inter-process communication (IPC) to make the architecture of the machines faster per thread, and of course to the advantage we had, where we originally planned to have forward parity with Intel. We were very excited about that.

For the first time in the industry, we are going to break the laws of nature that had governed the semiconductor industry for the past 30 years. It's like the fourth wall of physics in semiconductors, Intel has a process node advantage. We were excited 4 years ago because we thought we were going to be on par. We did not dream that we would be ahead.

So that also goes beyond the architectural advantage that we designed for, that we planned for, which has also been a huge improvement.
