AMD will not support Ray Tracing at the moment

One of those responsible for AMD has said in an interview that until Ray Tracing cannot be implemented in low-end graphics, they do not contemplate it.

It is quite evident that NVIDIA at the technology level is several years ahead of AMD, clearly reflected in the GeForce RTX. During an event in Japan, Radeon Technologies Group Senior Vice President of Engineering David Wang spoke about the use of DirectX Ray Tracing technology for video games. Wang during the event stressed that they have no plans to support Ray Tracing until it can be used in all their products or what is the same, that it is not a technology only for high-end graphics, but an entry-level one as well. can handle this technology.

AMD says it will not support Ray Tracing until it can be supported by entry-level graphics.

It seems like an attack on NVIDIA for the moment only to implement this technology in high-end graphics, although it is planned that mid-range graphics will also be launched with support for this graphics.

During the interview, Wang stressed that the development of hardware for Ray Tracing technology requires a great deal of R&D, which requires a lot of money and also a lot of time. Although it is invested in all this, there are no guarantees of its popularization.

The thing is, AMD does not currently have the power to take these financial freedoms, which NVIDIA can, since it has great economic strength. They may be waiting to find out if the GeForce RTX really have a niche to develop something for this market, something that could take years.

“For now, AMD will definitely respond to DirectX Raytracing, but for now we will focus on promoting acceleration of CG production environments focused on AMD's Radeon ProRender line, which is offered free of charge.

The use of Ray Tracing technology in games will not continue unless we can offer Ray Tracing on all product ranges, from the low end to the high end. ” David Wang comments in the Japanese media 4Gamers.

Although it is not clarified, everything seems to indicate that Navi does not support Ray Tracing, so if this technology succeeds, it is an exclusive market for NVIDIA and it could put the price that it wanted. This shows the problems that AMD is currently having in the graphics card market, where it has been years behind.
