AMD wants 10% server market share by Q2 2020
A few days ago Bob Swan, CEO of Intel, indicated that they had been wrong when trying to get a 90% share in the home CPU market. This would have caused the current problems of the company and indicates that the current strategy is to get 30% of the silicon market. Ruth Cotter, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for AMD revealed the company's plans.

During the UBS Global Tech Conference, Cotter highlighted the company's future plans. They are currently looking to achieve a market share of two percentage points. This is very much possible in the server processor market thanks to EPYC Rome. All thanks to the constant improvements added to the processor market.

Cotter has talked primarily about 1st and 2nd Generation EPYC processors. The company has managed to regain its lost reputation with a solid roadmap for servers. They also work on forming and building an excellent ecosystem around the EPYC platform.
Thanks to the EPYC processors, AMD has achieved significant agreements with HPC assemblers. Currently they already have important agreements with Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS for the Cloud Computing market. The new systems will be based on EPYC processors due to their performance, price and energy efficiency.

The company highlights that they currently have a 7% market share in the server market. The company's peak was with the old Opterons, with up to 26% market share. Reaching that volume will cost a lot, looking to go little by little in the market. The first objective is to achieve at least 10% market share by the second quarter of 2020.
Our first generation of EPYC was called Naples, and this same August we launched our second generation, called Rome. We're at a 7% share today if you look at the IDC TAM of around 20 million units.
Our goal over time is to return to historical levels that were 26%. But before we can have credibility on such an ambitious goal, we have to get to the double-digit quota first. Therefore, our goal is to reach a 10% share by the second quarter of 2020.
