AMD has just announced and confirmed the release of its first update to RDNA 2, which offers upgraded RX 6000 series GPU models. All models feature a higher core clock speed and faster GDDR6 memory modules. These new graphics cards are the AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT, the AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT and the AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT.
The AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT will sit above the Radeon RX 6900 XT, and the Radeon RX 6750 XT will sit above the Radeon RX 6700 XT, and the Radeon RX 6650 XT will sit above the Radeon RX 6600 XT. The line is expected to bring performance increases of between 5 and 10% over the original models.
RX 6950 XT, a strong competitor against the RTX 3090 Ti
The AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT will come equipped with the Navi 21 KXTX GPU in its fully enabled die configuration. It will feature 80 Compute Units or 5120 SPs. The card will also have 16 GB of GDDR6 memory via a 256-bit bus interface. There are also 80 ray accelerators for ray tracing on the graphics card, addressing AMD's long-standing weakness: ray tracing . It will operate at a GPU base clock of 2,1 GHz and a boost clock of 2310 MHz. This represents an increase of up to 4% compared to the reference RX 6900 XT model, which ran at 2015 and 2250 MHz, respectively. It will offer up to 23,65 TFLOPs of peak FP32 performance.
It will also feature 128MB of Infinity Cache on the GPU array. The cache will help increase bandwidth for better performance at resolutions above 1080p HD. The standard bandwidth of 512 GB/s is multiplied by three, providing an effective bandwidth of up to 1,728,2 TB/s. Its 6 Gbps GDDR18 memory dies will offer an effective bandwidth of 576 GB/s. The card will have a TBP of 335 W (an increase of 35 W over the RX 6900 XT).
Its design will maintain the "Midnight Black" color of the 6800 XT Limited Edition, with a 2,5-slot cooler, a triple-fan heatsink, and its power supply will require two 8-pin connectors.
As is typical when a new graphics card series is officially announced, custom model manufacturers have already announced their own versions , in case we want one with better cooling or overclocking options. This applies to the three RDNA 2 refresh cards that AMD announced today.
