3DMark Fire Strike Benchmark Ranks AMD RX 5700 XT Below NVIDIA RTX 2070 FE
It seems that the hype of the AMD RX 5700 XT is softening, since in the filtered benchmark it is below the NVIDIA RTX 2070.
Although the AMD RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 looked promising during their E3 2019 presentation , it seems that was just a mirage. The company showed us a series of interesting benchmarks, promising to compete with NVIDIA. Perhaps the price was a bit of a letdown, as some expected them to be incredibly affordable. Well, it seems they won't be as good as some might have hoped.
The benchmark of the RX 5700 XT has been leaked in the 3DMark Time Spy and with it, the first disappointment. It is below the NVIDIA RTX 2070 Founders Edition. It should be noted that the RTX 2070 Super will be launched soon, so the difference should increase. On the other hand, this is a synthetic benchmark, in games things should change a lot.
AMD RX 5700 XT Benchmark
The first thing to keep in mind is that 3DMark Time Spy is not a game. It may be that in games things go better, especially those 'optimized' for AMD. Although this benchmark already allows us to get an idea, it is a grain of sand on the beach. When we have a benchmark set, then, we can see more clearly what these graphs look like.
Returning to what interests us. The RX 5700 XT from AMD gives a score of 8 points. This is a 719% improvement over the RX Vega 17, which gave a score of 64 points. It comes close to the NVIDIA RTX 7 Founders Edition, which scores 427 points.
From my point of view and seeing everything in perspective, I would go for an NVIDIA Pascal or an AMD Polaris. It's not crazy, the prices are very low for these charts and they perform very well. There are hardly any games that support RayTracing, so it is a technology that matters nothing. Navi is a hybrid between GCN and RDNA, which as we see, is not that it is crazy.
It seems logical to me to bet on 'old' charts and wait until 2020 for a new chart. That is when the fully RDNA-based Navi 20 arrives. In addition, the NVIDIA Ampere @ 7nm will arrive with more polished RayTracing and there will be the Cyberpunk 2077. For me, any version of Turing or the new Navi, they are not worth it.
