AMD keeps dragging RayTracing on the RX 6000

One of the big doubts about the new AMD Radeon RX 6000 is its support for RayTracing. This technology has a great impact on performance, therefore the company would be working on a Super Resolution technology. Eric Bergman, Executive Vice President of AMD, has spoken about the RX 6000, in addition to speaking about the RDNA3 architecture.

Bergman hasn't said much about the company's new graphics and its support for ray tracing. He simply stressed that the RX 6900XT and RX 6800 (both versions) will support RayTracing. He has emphasized that they use the Vulkan and DirectX ray tracing APIs, but little else about it.

AMD still dodges talk about RayTracing on the RX 6000

Although a few days ago Frank Azor indicated that they would give more information about RayTracing shortly, at the moment nothing is known. The company continues to shy away from talking about ray tracing support in its new graphics. Remember that on November 18 the RX 6800 XT and the RX 6800 were launched, and nothing is known about RayTracing

And our goal was at 1440p [resolution], to have a great RayTracing experience. And that was the level of performance we were aiming for. Now it depends on everyone's particular games and systems and so on, but I think you will find that we have very good ray tracing performance overall. And the support of the game will be strong as we move into 2021, because again, we get that big influence. It's only built-in: support ray tracking on Microsoft or Sony [consoles], also supported by AMD on PC side.

Recently there was talk of an AMD technology that is equivalent to NVIDIA DLSS technology. As Bergman has indicated, the company will call it FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) and the features it would implement.

We don't have many details we want to talk about. So we call FSR - FidelityFX Super Resolution. But we are committed to implementing that feature, and we are working with ISVs at this point. I'll just say that AMD's focus on these kinds of technologies is to make sure we have broad platform support, and they don't require proprietary solutions from ISVs. And that's the approach we are taking.
