AMD Ryzen 3000: Overclocking test in a Chinese forum would verify that these processors support overclocking well
Everything indicates that the AMD Ryzen 3000 are quite friendly with overclocking, second some data that has been published in a forum in China.
I'm quite surprised by how much talk there is about the overclocking capabilities of the new AMD Ryzen 3000 series . The first and second generations of Ryzen weren't very overclocking-friendly, but it seems this third generation will be more so. Reducing the node to 7nm would have allowed for more headroom by requiring lower voltages. While yesterday we mentioned that AMD would be doing an overclocking demo at E3 2019, overclocking data has surfaced from China. Specifically, overclocking data for the new Ryzen 3000 series has appeared on the Chiphell forums.
The AMD Ryzen 3000 would be allowed to overclock without problems
According to the Chinese media forum, an undetermined Ryzen 3000 could reach 4.5GHz with a voltage of 1.35V in all its cores. We could even go up to 4.8GHz on high-end motherboards with liquid cooling. A few processors, the best, could go up to 5.0GHz, although it will not be all. It is even indicated that AMD could launch a Ryzen 3000 black leg at 5.0GHz in 2020, to commemorate its 50 years of history.
In addition, in this forum it is said that an AMD Ryzen 3000 @ 4.4GHz would render similar to the Intel Core i9-9900K @ 5.0GHz in Cinebench. The number of cores is not highlighted, but the Core i9-9900K only reaches 5.0GHz on one core. That leads us to think that we are talking about performance in a single core.
A few days ago an AMD Ryzen 3000 with 16 cores and 32 threads was seen working at 4.25GHz. Said processor was an engineering sample operating at a voltage of 1.572V. Getting to 5.0GHz in this processor with liquid cooling will not be possible, although with liquid nitrogen it should not be a problem.
On the other hand, they would have tested the 9-core, 3900-thread Ryzen 12 24X, which would operate at 4.6GHz on all cores. This processor is accompanied by DDR4 @ 4000MHz CL18 memories. On the working voltage of the processor no data has been given.
We are going to be conservative and be clear that it will be in the AMD Next Horizon when we have the good data. AMD will demonstrate overclocking on these new AMD Ryzen 3000 and many unknowns will be revealed. But things are looking good.
