AMD Ryzen 4000 could be delayed to launch at 5nm +

A few days ago it was reported that AMD would possibly launch the Zen4000 architecture Ryzen 3 processors in September. These Zen3 architecture processors are based on enhanced 7nm lithography. According to information from DigiTimes, AMD has finally changed plans regarding Vermeer processors. The delay would have to do with them not using the 7nm EUV process, they would go on to use the 5nm +.

Whenever AMD has referred to Ryzen 4000 processors, or rather Zen 3 , they've mentioned 7nm lithography. In some slides, the company has indicated the use of 7nm+ and in others, 7nm, but they've never mentioned 5nm. Their decision to jump to 5nm+ is a real surprise.

AMD could jump to 5nm + for the Ryzen 4000

TSMC a few months ago indicated that the 5nm manufacturing process would start in April this year. Later they highlighted that the 5nm + would begin production in Q4 2020. If this node happens to be used, we would not see the AMD Ryzen Vermeer processors in September or October.

It's worth noting that AMD is currently in no hurry to launch new products. Intel's Comet Lake-S processors are no match for the current Ryzen processors. Furthermore, the Ryzen 9 3900XT, Ryzen 7 3800XT, and Ryzen 5 3600XT have been spotted on several occasions and could be released in June.

AMD and TSMC are rumored to have adjusted their foundry's roadmap. The Ryzen 4000 series of desktop processors, scheduled to launch in late 2020, will now use TSMC's enhanced 5nm processor (5nm +) instead of the 7nm EUV

To date AMD has not said anything about launching the Zen3 processors on a node other than 7nm. We assume that the Matisse Refresh will be more than enough solution for now to combat the Intel Comet Lake-S. If finally confirmed, the performance jump and efficiency improvement will be a new problem for Intel.
