AMD shows off its Ryzen 7000 Pro CPUs with AI modules
AMD has just introduced a new family of processors based on its Zen 4 cores to target professional environments. The new CPU Ryzen Pro 7000 series with Radeon graphics integrated has as flagship of the series, with up to eight cores and a base frequency of 4 GHz; the Ryzen 9 Pro 7940HS.
The Anandtech and Toms Hardware portals have also commented on the launch. It is produced a few hours before a big keynote specialized in products and solutions for data centers in which more CPUs for servers and professional environments are expected to be announced.

Apart from the new architecture, which provides a higher IPC, new graphics architecture, and DDR5 memory; AMD has limited a piece of transistors that it has called Ryzen AI and that is optimized for AI-based workloads. The example that AMD has used is the Windows Studio effects, which allow you to blur the background, track eye movements, and automatically frame the user when using a laptop's built-in camera. AMD has not confirmed if all new Ryzen Pro models will include this Ryzen AI block.
The inclusion of a dedicated AI block would allow AMD to offer an end-to-end hardware solution, from the data center to the edge. Xilinx series for FPGA accelerators, Instinct series for GPUs, EPYC CPU series, and now the Ryzen Pro series for clients. This would serve them well in the near future where AI tasks move seamlessly between the cloud and the edge powered by AMD.
AMD mentioned both Intel and Apple in its battery test using the Microsoft Teams video conferencing platform on a device running the Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U. This model is AMD's thinnest and lightest Pro CPU. It ran with 70% more performance than a laptop with an Intel Core i7-1370P and about 10% more than a MacBook Pro with a Apple M2Pro and 10 cores. The AMD had the smallest battery (51,3 Wh) of the four test notebooks, while the MacBook Pro had the largest (69,6 Wh).
These processors are expected reach the professional laptops of the big brands and aspiring brands. Above all, they would stand out for being dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, a field that is increasingly seen as a future support for the most demanding and day-to-day tasks.
