AMD has just unveiled a new family of processors based on its Zen 4 cores, targeting professional environments. The new Ryzen Pro 7000 series CPUs with integrated Radeon graphics are topped by the Ryzen 9 Pro 7940HS, featuring up to eight cores and a base clock speed of 4 GHz.
The websites Anandtech and Toms Hardware have also commented on the launch. It comes just hours before a major keynote address focused on products and solutions for data centers, where more CPUs for servers and professional environments are expected to be announced.
AMD introduces artificial intelligence modules in its CPUs, starting with the Ryzen 7000 Pro
Aside from the new architecture, which delivers higher IPC, a new graphics architecture, and DDR5 memory, AMD has designated a section of transistors it calls Ryzen AI, optimized for AI-based workloads . AMD used the example of Windows Studio effects, which allow users to blur the background, track eye movements, and automatically frame the user when using a laptop's integrated camera. AMD has not confirmed whether all new Ryzen Pro models will include this Ryzen AI block.
The inclusion of a dedicated AI block would allow AMD to offer an end-to-end hardware solution, from the data center to the edge. Xilinx series for FPGA accelerators, Instinct series for GPUs, EPYC CPU series, and now the Ryzen Pro series for clients. This would serve them well in the near future where AI tasks move seamlessly between the cloud and the edge powered by AMD.
AMD mentioned both Intel and Apple in its battery test using the Microsoft Teams video conferencing platform on a device powered by the Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U. This model is AMD's thinnest and lightest Pro CPU. It performed 70% better than a laptop with an Intel Core i7-1370P and about 10% better than a MacBook Pro with an Apple M2 Pro and 10 cores. The AMD had the smallest battery (51,3 Wh) of the four laptops tested, while the MacBook Pro had the largest (69,6 Wh).
These processors are expected to be found in professional laptops from major brands and aspiring manufacturers. They will be particularly noteworthy for their focus on Artificial Intelligence, a field with an increasingly promising future supporting both demanding and everyday tasks.
