AMD Secures Exclusivity of TSMC 7nm Lithography
To avoid stock issues, AMD has ensured that TSMC puts its 7nm lithography machines solely to work on its products.
On Tuesday it was officially announced that Computex 2019 will be opened by AMD's Keynote, featuring AMD Ryzen 3000 Series, EPYC ROME and Navi GPUs based on 10nm lithography. Ryzen 3000 and EPY ROME are expected to hit the market soon after. We don't know much about these processors, except that they will be a huge leap in performance and efficiency. This increases the needs of the company, which has requested TSMC to produce more Ryzen silicon.
AMD requests more production from TSMC of silicon based on 7nm
A few hours ago TSMC has confirmed the 5nm lithography, which will be 15% more powerful than the 7nm lithography. The 5nm is not yet ready to be used in processors and it takes time for this to happen. But among the information they have offered, they have highlighted that they are fully loaded with the 7nm lithography. This indicates that TSMC currently has all its production capacity taken over by the manufacturers that work with it, including AMD.
But it is that not only AMD uses the Taiwanese foundry, Apple also has TSMC as a processor manufacturer. This can be a problem for the production of Ryzen processors. To avoid problems, the company has put a large amount of money on the table to get an exclusive production. A clear strategy to ensure priority over Apple and avoid running out of stock.
Movement that has been classified as 'aggressive', seeking the company to keep demand in the short and medium term. This is because the Ryzen 3000 and EPYC ROME are scheduled to be released. Above all, they hope to sell many Ryzen due to Intel's problems in the market and the high prices of the competition.
