AMD drops the price of the RX 580 to fight the NVIDIA GTX 1600 Series
To combat the NVIDIA GTX 16 Series, AMD has decided to reduce the price of the RX 580 4GB and 8GB to combat them (and clean stock in the process)
The arrival of the NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1660, in addition to the upcoming launch of the GTX 1650, force AMD to move forward. Currently AMD does not have the ability to respond to NVIDIA with a new graphics card. Moreover, it is not convenient, since they are working on the Navi @ 7nm architecture graphics. To avoid disappearing from the market they have chosen to throw the prices of the current RX 580.
AMD drops the price of the RX 580
This strategy is the best AMD could do right now. The company cannot waste time launching a product that is half-sold and selling poorly. Before the arrival of Navi, what interests the company most is cleaning stock of its obsolete silicones. And it is that the 480GB and 4GB RX 8 models are the closest in performance to the GTX 1660 ti and GTX 1660. It is also a good strategy to combat the GTX 1650 that will arrive in a matter of days.
We can find the Sapphire RX 580 4GB with a dual fan heatsink and a frequency of 1340MHz for € 149. The Gigabyte AORUS RX 580 8Gb that works at 1355MHz and has a double fan for € 183. If we want something a little better, we have the Gigabyte AORUS RX 580 of 1380MHz and with a slightly better heatsink for € 215. Finally we have the Sapphire RX 580 8GB Nitro Plus that works at 1411MHz for € 240.
As we can see, AMD's strategy is quite clear, clean stock by lowering the price as much as possible. It's not only good for the company, but also for assemblers, who will be able to clean up excess stock.
