AMD and DFI launch a board with a Ryzen CPU and Vega GPU to compete with Raspberry Pi

AMD Ryzen processors have been a breath of fresh air in the market, exposing Intel's shortcomings. Moreover, AMD is developing a wide range of solutions for all types of markets. The company has partnered with motherboard manufacturer DFI to launch a Ryzen-based version of the Raspberry Pi , a solution called the DFI GHF51.

A custom solution has been developed based on the Zen2 architecture for the CPU and Vega for the GPU. This compact solution is a mini PC of only 84x55mm that offers great power and wants to take over the Raspberry market. It remains to know some technical aspects of this solution, but points out enough ways.

AMD and DFI launch Raspberry Pi competition

This new solution developed by DFI and AMD is based on the Ryzen R1000 Series. It comes in two versions, one based on the R1505G that features 2 cores and 4 threads @ 3.3GHz with a nominal TDP of 15W, although DFI has set it to 12W. There is a version based on the R1606G with 2 cores and 4 threads with a base frequency of 2.6GHz and arrives in Boost mode at 3.5GHz. The two solutions come with a Vega 3 GPU that has 3 Compute Units, being the R1505G @ 1.0GHz and the R1606G @ 1.2GHz. Both cases will offer two HDMI 1.4

DFI GHF51 will support up to 8GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz in Single Channel with UEFI boot. A rare solution, but being very compact and for light operating systems it may be sufficient. Storage is based on a 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB eMMC drive, optimal for Linux and even Windows 10.

AMD Ryzen and DFI launch an alternative to the Raspberry Pi

It has an Intel I211AT or Intel I210IT network card that offers an RJ45 connection. We also have a USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C port and as video outputs we will have two micro HDMI.

It also has an 8-bit DIO and a SMBus, as well as a 12V DC power supply. Supports Windows 10 IoT Enterprise and any Linux distribution. We can use them without problems and let our imagination fly.
