The ASUS RX 6500 XT will go on the market from 299 euros

Last week at CES 2022, AMD officially unveiled its latest GPU, the RX 6500 XT. This graphics card was announced with an MSRP of $199.

This RX 6500 XT has been positioned as an “affordable” graphics card based on the RDNA 2 architecture, and as usual, it’s open to OEMs to make their own versions and modifications. One of them is ASUS, which has announced its own retail price for the RX 6500 XT, which is significantly higher than the one set by AMD.

AMD sells the RX 6500 XT more expensive than AMD

GPU overpricing is nothing new, as GPUs continue to be in demand by crypto miners and their bots. It was reported in November that current-gen graphics cards from both AMD and Nvidia are selling for twice what they should be, and it looks like AMD's new RX 6500 XT is going to follow suit. It is not that 300 euros is a lot for a graphics card, but it is for one with a power equivalent to an NVIDIA GTX 1650.

This information comes from the official prices of ASUS Germany, which has set a RRP of 299 euros for its RX 6500 XT Dual model, with the most expensive TUF Gaming card 35 euros. Even with the change from euro to dollar given that sales in the US are tax-free, it is a markup of about 100 euros if AMD sells it for 200.

Considering the specs that the RX 6500 XT offers, and the fact that AMD has only shown its performance relative to the RX 570 and GTX 1650, this price seems absurd, but our final judgment will have to wait until we can test. the card by ourselves. The only silver lining about this GPU is that the 4GB VRAM allocation is likely to deter miners from purchasing it, so hopefully cards will be released for gamers.
