ASUS has listed five motherboards based on the AMD A520 chipset

Yesterday, the Ryzen 3 3300X and Ryzen 3 3100 processors were announced , along with the B550 chipset, which will arrive at the end of the month . The Ryzen 3 3300X is generating a lot of buzz due to its strong performance and competitive price. But now, surprisingly, ASUS has listed and confirmed several motherboards based on the A520 chipset, which has not yet been announced by AMD.

Note that the B550 chipset is quite disappointing, since it is a slightly modified version of the B450. In addition, this new chipset is designed to support Zen2 onwards, not supporting previous processors. Everything suggests that the A520 chipset will follow in the footsteps of the A520 chipset, being an updated version of the A420.

AMD A520 chipset confirmed by ASUS

We do not know the characteristics of this new chipset, but it is clear that the indirect lines will not be PCIe Gen4. Indirect lines are nothing more than PCIe lines that start from the chipset. The B550 only offers PCIe Gen3 and it is the processor that offers us 20 PCIe Gen4 lanes.

The interesting thing is that before AMD announces the new A520 chipset, ASUS has already listed 5 motherboards based on this chipset. A somewhat strange movement that has surprised. Note that ASUS was one of the manufacturers willing to add PCIe Gen4 support on motherboards with X470 chipset, although AMD finally prevented it through the AGESA microcode.

These new low-end motherboards are:

  • PRIME A520M-A
  • PREMIUM A520M-E
  • TUF GAMING A520M-A
  • PRIME A520M-CZK
  • TUF GAMING A520M-PLUS

What can we expect from these A520 motherboards? Power phases without dissipation or with simple heatsink, chipset with simple heatsink, very limited connectivity, etc. These motherboards will surely be focused on Ryzen 3 and APUs, which are usually low power. If we go to the Ryzen 5 or higher, we will have to go to the B550.
