ASUS adds Re-Size BAR to Intel Z490 motherboards, the equivalent of AMD SAM
One of AMD's bets is the new Smart Access Memory (SAM) technology for its Ryzen 5000 processors. This technology, according to AMD, can be used by both Intel and NVIDIA. Well, ASUS in a new BIOS has added support for this AMD technology, but under another name. ASUS has dubbed it Re-Size BAR (Base Address Register) for the Z490 chipset.
Indicate that this technology is not exactly new, it has already existed for years. It was first implemented by AMD in order to improve the performance of the AMD RX 6000. At the moment SAM can be used on the X570 and B550 chipset motherboards, but it will also arrive on the X470 and B450 chipset motherboards.

Such firmware is available for ASUS Z490 motherboards with version 1003, which adds Re-Size BAR technology. The update details that integration for decoding above 4G and support for Re-Size BAR is added in the ASUS RoG Maximus XII Apex.
The implementation of this technology is simple, as it is part of the PCI Express 3.0 and PCI Express 4.0 specifications. A technology that could benefit both NVIDIA and AMD. Intel processors, in addition to AMD's, should also take advantage of this technology. AMD will give it full support, but NVIDIA and Intel have not positioned themselves at this point at the moment.
Currently this technology only works with the AMD Ryzen 5000 and the Radeon RX 6000 under the X570 chipset. SAM enables AMD graphics to get up to 11% more performance. We will have to wait to see if NVIDIA will support this technology. We also have no evidence from Intel of supporting this technology to benefit its processors in the gaming segment.
